State employees aim to give $2 million in annual campaign

The State Employee Charitable Campaign’s 24th annual fun and fund drive will run from September 1 – October 31, 2017. Nearly 60,000 state employees, 100,000 state retirees, and 90 state agencies (over 10 percentof local workforce) have the opportunity to support hundreds of vetted and deserving charitable missions.

During the months of September and October, state employees throughout Texas go above and beyond their normal job duties to advocate and advance philanthropic causes. Participating state employees will help secure permanent housing for our homeless neighbors, empower students with the quality education they deserve, and sustain programs that are helping veterans find employment and a hot meal.

“Year after year, state employees throughout Texas offer an outpouring of support and compassion to those in need through the annual charitable campaign in their workplace;” SECC Campaign Manager Reagan Stone says, “The success of the SECC is a testament to each employees generosity, and I am so proud that over the years, Capital Area state employees have pledged over $21 Million.”

The SECC was created in 1993 by the Texas Legislature, and has since raised $160 Million for thousands of Texas charities through payroll deduction. Last year, the Capital Area SECC raised $1.97 million for local charities. The 2017 goal is to raise $2 Million.

State employees can make a tax-deductible charitable donation through payroll deduction, a one-time gift, or learn about how to volunteer and advocate in Central Texas through their agency’s Workplace Ambassador or  online. University of Texas employees may also designate a gift through UT Direct.
