I think that it is totally contradictory for Komen to support Planned Parenthood when there is an established link between breast cancer ( precisely what Komen alleges to be battling against) and abortion (Planned Parenthood provides abortions) Therefore, planned parenthood services put women at risk for breast cancer... the same cancer Komen alleges to be trying to eradicate.... get it? http://www.abortionbreastcancer.com/The_Link.htm
And in addition as far as contraceptives being a MUST for companies to provide to employees, this is anything but good news for religious FREEDOM, which this country was founded on and which protected up until the Obama administration. Forcing institutions ,that are morally opposed to contraception, is in fact not progress at all.
And at this moment you may be celebrating because this infringement of rights aligns with your personal philosophy, but try to imagine the ramifications of limiting religious freedoms. http://diopitt.org/hhs-delays-rule-contraceptive-coverage
ExPlORE the issues for yourself and get a balanced view before you wholeheartedly swallow what the liberal media and this website are feeding you!

Great perspective, Monica! This is spot on. It certainly is complicated. And we aren't privy to all the facts that led to this decision. However, as a fellow nonprofit communications professional, it's Komen's communications strategy following the decision that really bothers me. Not the decision itself. Nothing against Komen at all, I just wish they were handling the fallout better.

Wait, what? Me, pressure someone? Never! I'd like to second Julie's suggestion of the libraries. I've held a number of meetings at the Carver Branch, and library rooms are high on functionality, if not ambience. P.S. There's also a need for a list of free or low-cost meeting places that serve food & drink, like restaurant banquet rooms...

Loved this post! Yes, please bring me gifts, and allow me to bring you some as well. LOVE the gift-giving! Of course there are issues with it - stress, money, too many things, etc. But I'm with you - let's keep the gift-giving going and enjoy it.

"Aw, you brought gifts? You didn't have to."

i was thinking today that i was glad i wasn't out there fighting people trying to get THINGS for others... that urge to not be given gifts or exchange gifts... it comes more from a desire to not add more to the THINGS.

you want to get me a gift?

Spend time with me where we can laugh; share a meal; go out to row with me; go for a walk; or make a donation to an organization that i care about.

Nourish our souls and bodies in ways that don't add to the THINGS.

THAT is a gift i can get behind.
