Austin Homeless Nonprofit Looking for Free SXSW Swag

Donate your swag T-shirtFoundation for the Homeless is partnering with a “very generous company out of California” to collect SXSW “swag” – T-shirts, sunglasses, hats, bags, school supply items and more – and give it to local homeless people.

A press release from Foundation for the Homeless said, “Many of these items end up in a donation bin somewhere once attendees get home, which is what gave a very generous company out of California the idea to collect it and put it to good use here in the host city, and they chose the guests and clients of Foundation for the Homeless as the recipients.”

Volunteers will wear “Donate Your Swag” T-shirts and carry sacks to collect items from SXSW attendees. The volunteers will hand donors a thank you card with more information about their work and recognition of their sponsor.

They’re looking for volunteers. You can sign up to volunteer on Friday to make the cards or to volunteer this weekend to accept donations.  Weekend volunteers will meet in the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church at 13th/Lavaca. The lot is right next to the main Sanctuary building. Teams will be shuttled to different locations near SXSW venues where the teams will walk around with a large burlap sack. As the sacks are filled, the runners will swing by and let you empty the bags.

Volunteers have two main shifts to choose from on Saturday, March 8: 9:45-12:45 or 12:45-3:45. You can sign up for any of the shifts/tasks online here.
