Austin Parks Foundation is excited to announce that the nonprofit’s biggest citywide volunteer event, It’s My Park Day, will return for the second time this year with the fall date set for Saturday, November 3rd. Volunteer registration for more than 80 projects throughout the city is now open at austinparks.org/IMPD.
The citywide volunteer event will bring together thousands of Austin locals to help clean and improve parks, trails and greenbelts throughout the Austin area. In Spring 2018, It’s My Park Day had over 3,000 volunteers working on nearly 100 projects across town. These volunteers put in the equivalent of 7 park maintenance employees working full-time for a whole year. Altogether, this one day represented an investment of over $250,000 for Austin’s parks.
“For 26 years, Austin Parks Foundation has been committed to providing high-quality volunteer experiences that allow our community to come together to improve and beautify our city’s green spaces,” said Colin Wallis, CEO of Austin Parks Foundation. “With over 80 projects across town, we’re providing every Austinite the unique experience to get to know their neighbors, give back to their local park, and in turn, give back to the city of Austin.”
At this fall edition, volunteers can expect treats and rewards for giving back to the community. Austin Parks Foundation has partnered with more than 40 restaurants and businesses across the city for special givebacks to all volunteers. After participants are finished volunteering, they simply need to show up with their volunteer t-shirt on November 3 to any of the partner locations to receive freebies and discounts. Some of the participating restaurants include the following: all 15 locations of Austin’s beloved P. Terry’s and both locations of Taco Ranch offering free lemonade; CAVA, the popular Mediterranean fast food restaurant, will be treating volunteers with a buy one, get one free offer; South Austin’s hip Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden will be giving a 20% discount; and the Martin Luther King Jr Blvd location of Houndstooth will be giving volunteers the necessary fuel with a free hot or iced coffee.
