HeartGift Foundation Exceeds Fundraising Goal at 2019 Gala

More than 400 industry leaders and key influencers attend HeartGift Gala each year. In 2018 HeartGift Foundation served its 400th child and thanks to this years generous HeartGift Gala donations, the foundation will be able to change the lives of even more children with congenital heart defects around the world.

On April 11, 2019, at the JW Marriott Austin, HeartGift Foundation celebrated their annual HeartGift Gala chaired by Sarah and Stephen Garrison. The gala honored Carolyn and Mike Maples, who are outstanding leaders of the Austin community and have been consistent, long-time donors since inception of HeartGift. The fundraising goal of $500,000 was magnificently surpassed and attendees raised $650,000 thanks to Heath Hale and the Cowboy Auctioneers. The live auction included extravagant trips from all around the world, one of which included a medical mission trip with a surgical team to Bolivia for those who really wanted to immerse themselves into the mission.

“HeartGift is the bridge between a short life of despair and a long life of hope.” Mike Maples said. “The stories of these children, the more than 400 children, are so incredible they are almost hard to believe. What a parent will do for a child is a thing of miracles.”

Around the world, HeartGift has forged partnerships with non-governmental organizations to enable patient referrals. All participating physicians and medical partners contribute 100 percent of their professional fees and services and HeartGift staff and volunteers coordinate travel and temporary housing arrangements, meals, translator services and other needs for the child and their family during their stay.

“I’d be willing to bet that if you asked any one who has been a host family for HeartGift, they will tell you that their experience is greater than those we serve,” Christy Casey-Moore, Chief Executive Officer at HeartGift Foundation said. “I hear that all the time.”

Wade Bowen performed as attendees danced the night away. This year’s industry leaders and key influencers included Colt McCoy and Reese Ryan. Everyone came out to support a great cause: saving children from around the world born with congenital heart defects.

“Now that my son has had surgery, I feel born again as a mother,” Mother of HeartGift Foundation patient recipient said. “There is nothing more joyful than to see a healthy child with life.”

Heartgift Gala is HeartGift Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event. This year’s top event sponsors included: Frost Bank, Sarah and Stephen Garrison, Maryann and Paul Bell, Carolyn and Mike Maples, Karen and Dr. John “Chip” Oswalt, Sandra and Kevin Brown, Schweitzer Family Foundation, Dell Children’s Ascension, Round Rock Express, Twisted X Brewery, K Friese and Associates, WSP, Atkins, Dalgleish Construction Company and Austin Pediatric Surgery.
