For five years in a row, Alamo Drafthouse has hosted a team of cyclist to ride in the BP MS150, a two-day fundraising bike ride with 13,000 cyclists taking on the 150 miles between Houston and Austin, all to raise money for multiple sclerosis. This year’s race will take place April 18-19.
But these Alamo riders aren’t your ordinary “ride for the cure” team.
First of all, there are the riders. “This year we’ve got Alamo employees from Austin, DFW, San Antonio and Kansas City,” says Amy Averett, Director of Family and Community Engagement. “That includes bartenders, servers, managers, home office staff, and Tim League!” Feel free to donate to the Alamo Drafthouse Cycling Team here.
Then there’s the calendar. “The team is on fire,” says Averett. “They’ve been training together and they even made their own awesome calendar for fundraising.” Check it out: The team recreated iconic movie scenes with the staff and their bikes.
And then — and this is where you can help — there’s the auction.
The online auction features more than 50 items ranging from cool to life-changing. Here’s a short list:
- A night at the Hotel Saint Cecelia
- A karaoke party at The Highball
- A gift basket from Dripping Springs Vodka
- A $100 gift card to Seersucker
- Free milkshakes for a year
- One hour social media training with Alamo expert
- … and the aforementioned Alamo Drafthouse Team Calendar

And don’t think this is a small-change operation. “Last year we raised $15K,” says Averett, “and this year’s goal is $50K. We raise it through the auction, personal team fundraising and a series of bike-themed fundraising screenings throughout the spring.”
“Our favorite thing is that the staff team has become so active and so tight,” she says. “It’s the first national staff-led charitable project we’ve had and we’re so proud to support them. Also, their calendar is awesome!”
