Ambitious, hard-working students don’t rest when school’s out. They attend camps, work on leadership skills, play sports, explore, and build up an appetite, which means they still need out support to succeed.

Summer is a great time to volunteer and support Central Texas students. Here are some rewarding and important opportunities to sign up for right now.

Give feedback to high school students. Breakthrough Central Texas needs dozens of volunteers to help be an audience to interviews and presentations. Opportunities are in June and July. Meet with high school and middle school students. Training and lunch provided.

Hispanic Scholarship Consortium doesn’t just give money to help students pay tuition. It also gives them the support and mentorship they need to break the cycle and be a first-generation college graduate. It’s the kind of support that can change a young person’s life, and that’s why it’s critical that each of the 500+ applicants is evaluated carefully. Volunteers can sign up to train and evaluate 15-20 applications online, on your own time. Fill out this interest form here.

Almost 1 in 4 children in Central Texas experience food insecurity, which is why Central Texas Food Bank and the Texas Department of Agriculture offer the Summer Food Service program. All summer long kids 18 and younger can get a free meal at dozens of participating sites across Central Texas. Support the program with a donation to the Central Texas Food Bank here.

Want to volunteer outdoors? Candlelight Ranch serves families with kids with disabilities or who may be struggling with other challenges. Volunteers can help manage zip lines, to helping with kayaks, horses, and nature programming, to cooking healthy and delicious meals. Learn more about being a summer volunteer here.

Creative Action offers some of the best summer camps in the city, and that’s because volunteers like you help make them happen. Volunteers help professional Teaching Artists during creativity classes with games and art projects, help supervise and mentor youth during recess and lunch time, and support our staff and students at Final Sharings for friends and family at the end of each week. Sign up here to get the best camp weeks.
